Inside the family there are two different builds, and the model number does not say so
The S models —288S and 358S— and the 468 L use R290 refrigerant and a copper-tube condenser with aluminum fins. The 298 and 368 L use R600a and aluminum tube.
The difference shows on the scale and on the clock: the 288 L weighs 110 kg and the 298 L, which has ten liters more, weighs 78. And the 358 L weighs 120 kg against the 90 of the 368 L. These are not finish variants: they are two ways of building the same unit.
Ten liters more can cost twice the cool-down time
Measured by the manufacturer for pulling down to 6 °C with 32 °C ambient: the 288 L takes up to 55 minutes and the 298 L up to 120. The 358 L, up to 60; the 368 and 468 L, up to 70.
Choosing by capacity and nothing else can leave the laboratory with a unit that takes twice as long to reach regime. Recovery time after opening the door, by contrast, is up to 15 minutes on all five.
Power draw does not follow liters either
260 W on the 288 L, 189 W on the 298, 260 W on the 358, 230 W on the 368 and 220 W on the 468. The largest in the family draws less than the smallest, because what governs is the build and not the volume.
If the laboratory needs 110 V, there are two different cases
All five run on 220 V at 50 Hz as standard. But on the 288 and 358 L the 110 V at 60 Hz option calls for an external transformer, while on the 298, 368 and 468 L the 110/220 V at 60 Hz option does not mention one.
Biodynex delivers at 220 V, so in practice it does not apply; it is noted here because it is a real difference between models of the same family.
What all five bring alike
Casters as standard —unlike the compact series, where only the largest carries them—, an electrically heated glass door, a test port for a reference probe and a USB port.
And the same set of alarms: high and low temperature, thermostat failure, open door and power failure with 8 hours of backup. RS485, printer and logger remain optional.
